SouthCoast Style
I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their support with SouthCoast Style. For those of you that don't know, SouthCoast Style is a book in the style of a magazine that promotes clothing and accessories made or designed in the South Coast region of Massachusetts. Every single photo inside of it is a K. Garcia Productions photo making it also a portfolio of my work. In addition to taking all of the photos I also wrote it, but it certainly would not be as amazing as it is without my sister, Kaitlin Garcia, editing.
I thought this project was important because the South Coast often gets a bad reputation, most specifically Fall River and New Bedford. I wanted to do something to combat this negativity.
I am only 22 years old, and my sister 21, while I put this book together I was a senior at UMass Dartmouth, and my sister was a junior at Roger Williams University, we were both in school but still found time to do something positive for our community. I want other young people to know that just because they're young does not mean they cannot do something that does make a difference.
This project proves that theres is a future for the area, there are many jobs that need to be filled here and the South Coast can thrive in textiles again. During this project I also had the opportunity to see how much manufacturing was still happening in the South Coast. While it is obviously less than many years ago there was still a lot of manufacturing in Fall River, New Bedford, and the other cities and towns in the region. Some of which have been around for a long time and others just getting started.
I'm so proud to have this project and to see how the community has responded to it.
